Anybody want a Raspberry?

Raspberries are one of my favorite fruits, especially when in combination with chocolate. A few weeks ago we traveled up to Barton Orchards with a few friends to pick raspberries. We had a great day. Luckily, I was able to get a good 3 lbs before the kids started acting up and then the picking slowed down.

Gavin actually really enjoyed it and filled half a container all by himself. Then he finally ate his first berry. It was over after that. Most berries he picked after that he ate and then he started getting into the ones he already picked.
I am glad we are able enjoy days like that. Coincidentally, we ran into some more friends of ours at the Orchards. Small World!

I planned to make freezer jam with the raspberries. However, finding pectin in the city is impossible, so I froze most of the raspberries. I did manage to make some chocolate/raspberry brownies with them!

Looks like fun. I can remember a search for Pectin once and it could not be found! I searched at every market I could think of! My dad ended up mailing me some... I guess there aren't too many jam makers in NYC!

I was so sad to miss out on raspberry picking - since Brandon was sick all week! Looks like a great time. I couldn't find pectin so I ended up making freezer jam instead.

I love raspberries, sorry you couldn't make jam, that is so yummy, but raspberries none-the-less will be great to enjoy for a while. Gavin is a cutie picking berries and then discovering that you can eat them. :)

I laughed to read about Gavin eating all of the raspberries. Louis did the same thing at the strawberry patch. Your boys are adorable. I am so impressed and even jealous that you are having a great time raising your children in New York. We love so. cal and Louis wonders why there is no ocean in Utah, so I guess we'll be staying. If you ever come to Disneyland or Seaworld, let me know!
